Children and Youth Formation

Church of the Advent welcomes children, youth, and families to be a full part of our community life. When we say all are welcome at God’s altar, that includes all ages! Nursery care is offered September through May, but we always embrace the noises and wiggles of infants and toddlers in our worship. We welcome families who seek to grow in faith together.

PreK–3rd Grade

Our Church School meets throughout the program year on Sundays at 9:30am in the classroom. With the help of our Church School teacher, Donna Baker, children grow in faith, experience themselves as God’s beloved, and build a supportive and loving community.

Each class begins with prayer, followed by a Bible lesson consisting of stories of the Old Testament’s heroes and prophets and stories of the life Jesus. We talk about the Parables Jesus told his friends and followers to illustrate the love God has for us and the ways we can share that love with others. We finish with a craft to help remind us of the story of the day, so the children will remember that week’s story when they see the completed work. It also serves as a resource that encourages parents to ask their children about what they learned.

Children return to the Sanctuary to celebrate the Eucharist with the full congregation.

Dates for the rest of this program year, before we break for summer, are: January 21 and 28; February 4, 11, and 25; March 3, 10, and 24; April 7, 21, and 28; May 5 and 12; and June 2.
