Ministry Opportunities
Church of the Advent has many opportunities for us to serve this parish and God. Email us and let us know what you’re interested in!
Worship
-
Young people 10 and older are invited to help lead worship. Acolytes carry the cross and torches (candles) in the procession and hold the book during the reading of the Gospel. Sign up here.
-
The Altar Guild prepares the church, setting out the elements for God’s table and changing the altar hangings according to church season.
-
This group offers a chance to grow both musically and spiritually. All that is required is a love of singing. The choir sings about once a month and rehearses that morning.
-
The Flower Guild prepares flowers for the altar. After the service, they create smaller arrangements and deliver them to parish members.
-
Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEMs) are members of the congregation who vest for the service, read, and assist at the altar as chalice bearers.
-
Lay Eucharistic Visitors receive training from the diocese so they can bring communion to those who are ill, in hospital, or homebound.
-
Lectors come forward during the service to read scripture. Sign up here.
-
Ushers hand out worship bulletins, extend a warm welcome to all worshipers, and guide people to the altar rail for communion. Sign up here.
Outside of Worship
-
If you’ve owned a home, you know what’s involved in maintaining a building and its property. You can help with a one-time project or more.
-
Teachers and assistants are always welcome and needed to help our young parishioners build a relationship with God in Sunday School.
Mentors as well as teachers and assistants are needed to help our confirmands (usually 14-15 years old) prepare to commit maturely to Christ.
Youth Group builds community among our young people and accompanies them on their faith journey.
-
After we worship, we spend time together in fellowship: chatting, drinking juice or coffee, eating a cookie. Volunteers are needed to host. Instructions are easy and written out, and you can be paired with an experienced host. Sign up here.
-
Our annual Holiday Bazaar is our biggest fundraiser. Parishioners gather throughout the year to craft items to sell.
Organizers for other fundraisers always are welcome! Recent events include a Hawaiian-themed Murder Mystery Dinner and Electronics Recycling.
The money raised supports the ministries of our church.
-
Lay leaders are elected to vestry at Annual Meeting. The vestry helps to define and articulate the mission of the congregation; support the church’s mission by word and deed; ensure effective organization and planning; and manage resources and finances.
Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.
