OUTREACH COMMITTEE |
The Outreach Committee at the Church of the Advent has a long history of planning and organizing activities that provide assistance to others in need. Activities are organized in such a way to involve and inspire parishioners of all ages and means, and to provide opportunities to contribute their time, talents or treasure. Recipients of our parish outreach activities come from all walks of life and can be found |
LOCALLY |
· Medfield Food Cupboard |
· Easter dinner baskets for local families |
· Meals for families experiencing difficulty |
· Christmas stockings to local children in need |
IN OTHER COMMUNITIES |
· Common Cathedral ecumenical service on Boston Common and lunch for the homeless |
· Soup to Go ministry working with the United Congregational Church, providing soup, chili, and sandwiches for the homeless and veterans in Boston |
· Pieces of Home collection of backpacks, socks, underwear, blankets and toys/books for children in crisis at the Pediatric Emergency Room of Boston Medical Center who are transitioning to the Department of Children and Families |
· Habitat for Humanity build in Medway – helping construct a home for the selected family and providing snacks and lunch for the volunteers |
· B-SAFE summer camp for inner city children |
· Sock It To Me collection of new socks for distribution to the homeless through Health Care For the Homeless |
NATIONALLY and INTERNATIONALLY |
· Soles for Souls collection of gently used shoes shipped throughout the US |
· Feed the Children eyeglass collection to benefit people in developing nations needing eye exams and vision assistance IN OTHER COMMUNITIES |
· Holy Joe’s Café – supporting Fair Trade farmers by purchasing their coffee, tea and cocoa with proceeds going to benefit spiritual support for our troops |
The committee meets once a month at the church, usually the first Monday or Tuesday evening. Meeting dates are published in the newsletter and are posted on the Outreach bulletin board.
